Organisation

On March 17, 2005, Tuula Haatainen, the Minister of Education, and Tanja Karpela, the Minister of Culture, set up a committee, and under it a working group, to plan the Jubilee Year. The committee gathers together the major contributors to the Jubilee and it is chaired by Keijo Virtanen, the Rector of the University of Turku. The vice-chair of the committee and the chair of the working group is Aslak Lindström, who retired from the office of Director General of the Finnish National Board of Education in October 2005. The Jubilee Year secretariat works from the University of Turku, and the Secretary-General of the jubilee project is Ossi Tuusvuori.

To achieve the goals of the Jubilee, the task of the committee and the working group is to maintain the Jubilee program calendar and to develop and coordinate Jubilee events with the other organisers. The goal is that the expenses of the Jubilee project will be covered mainly by the various contributors themselves. Another task of the committee and the working group is to promote the Jubilee and to acquaint people with Agricola?s life work and influence in Finland.

The term of office of both the committee and the work group is from March 3, 2005 to February 2, 2008.

Minister Jaakko Numminen, Ossi Haaramäki, D.Th. and Alexander Belov, the vice-chair of the Russia-Finland Society, have been appointed as permanent experts in the Agricola Jubilee Year organisation.
